Currently, the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction) is continuing to focus manpower on completing procedures to soon commence Component Project 2 – the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project.
Regarding the project, Mr. Chu Van Tuan, Deputy Director of the Railway Project Management Board, recently stated that the Ministry of Construction is directing the Board to coordinate with agencies, units, and consultants to accelerate the work items of the investment and construction project for the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, aiming to commence construction of the main line by the end of 2026.
Previously, the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project, with a total main line length of approximately 390.9 km and branch lines of about 27.9 km, a single-track line with a 1,435 mm gauge, commenced Component Project 1, including railway stations, on December 19, 2025.
The Railway Project Management Board is continuing to coordinate with consultants to finalize the technical design dossiers for the remaining 16 stations, as a basis for contractor selection and commencement in the first quarter of 2026, and to complete the entire project in sync with Component Project 2 by 2030.
For Component Project 2 – Construction investment of railway works, since June 2025, consultants have been preparing the feasibility study report. Currently, the Railway Project Management Board is directing consultants to focus on finalizing the dossiers, striving to complete them in March 2026 as a basis for appraisal by Vietnam and China, aiming for project approval in July 2026.

Regarding site clearance and relocation of power facilities from 110kV and above, all 6/6 localities have reviewed approximately 111 resettlement areas; among them, 4/6 localities (Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Hanoi, and Hai Phong) have commenced construction of multiple resettlement areas since August 2025.
Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has also reviewed and divided the relocation of 110kV, 220kV, and 500kV power facilities into 16 sub-projects; along with 469 power facilities of 22kV and 0.4kV managed by six local power companies. Local authorities and EVN are continuing to implement related tasks.
The Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line has a designed speed of 160 km/h for the main line section from Lao Cai Station to Nam Hai Phong Station; 120 km/h for the section passing through the Hanoi hub area; and 80 km/h for the remaining sections.
The line passes through six provinces/cities: Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, and Hai Phong, with 32 stations. The starting point of the line is at the rail connection with the Chinese railway in Lao Cai Ward, Lao Cai Province; the endpoint is at Lach Huyen Port Station, Cat Hai Special Zone, Hai Phong City.
